Video Editing Hackintosh Final Build
So after 2 months of research, planning, debating, and saving skrill it is finally done! The final machine is much different from the first post I made describing what I wanted to buy. I will walk you through my purchases one item at a time and explain my reasoning behind each for my Hackintosh.
Corsair 800D case

This case is huge and has great air flow. As well as having four hot swappable hard drive bays. A bit pricy but worth it in my opinion.
Gigabyte X58A-UD3R rev.2.0

This Motherboard has had great success in the Hackintosh community. It can support up to 24gb of ram and has SATA III connections on it for blazing fast access times. (crucial for video editing)
Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz ram
I purchased three 4GB sticks to get me to 12GB. It is super fast and runs very cool. I plan to buy three more sticks to get me to 24GB of ram. It is very handy when working in After Effects.
GIGABYTE Radeon HD 6870

This was suggested by tonymacx86 in one of his custom builds for a high end “Hack Pro”. It works amazingly well from what I can tell so far. No bogging down when working in After Effects or Photoshop. A great buy for just $200.00!
Intel I7 980 – 6 Core processor
This thing is a beast to say the least. Render times have dropped significantly!!! If you are going to build a Hackintosh for video editing I highly suggest a 6 core.
Seagate 1Tb 7200rpm Hard Drives
Just your standard 1TB drives. I purchased four of them to put into the Hackintosh. I put them in a Raid10 configuration. Meaning you get faster access times and information redundancy. I end up getting a 2TB internal stripe that is twice as fast and everything is backed up so I have peace of mind. No more information loss due to bad drives.
60GB OCZ vertex SSD
I put my OS and programs on this drive. Holy shit this thing is fast! I can open and close programs in the blink of an eye!
Other than that I bought:
Three cool LED fans
750W power supply
standard dvd/cd drive
and a bluetooth dongel, so I can use my magic mouse.
The build:
I had never built a computer from scratch before so it was a big learning experience! However, to my surprise the computer started up first try! Guess I got something right. After that It was time to install snow leopard OS. I used TonyMacX86′s method to do so via Iboot and Multibeast. I had an issue that i could not get the OS to boot from my SSD via multibeast. So what I ended up doing was finding a tutorial of a round about way to do so. Basically what we did was move the Iboot files to my OS and re wrote some code. I have no idea what I did, but it worked!
My system cost me ~2500.00 but I got something that has the power of a $5,000.00 mac pro!

Good Morning,
Quick question, above you stated that you had 4TB’s (1TBx4) in HD’s on SATA3 on a RAID 10. I looked up the specs on this mobo and it only lists 2 SATA3 connectors, and states that the SATA3′s can only have a RAID0 or 1 configuration… Were you infact able to get all 4 TB on SATA3(6Gbps) and all configured on RAID 10?
Thank you very much for clarifing and responding back to me I appreciate the insight,
John
