Blam. 3:30 pm I arrive at Heavenly. It was strange for me rolling up to a resort 30 minuted before they closed but there was a very awesome reason for the contest being so late… After hoping out of my car and shooting the shit with the guys I grabbed my camera and shot some high school senior photos of them.

As usual the Tahoe sunset was spectacular! The views from Heavenly Mountain are some of the most breath-taking images your eyes can probably handle. The park crew and Nike built an amazing set up for this event. A 70ft gap jump with a quarter pipe cut into the front end of the landing pad was the main part of the feature. There was also a pretty cool close out rail to a glowing CHOSEN wall ride on the backside of the jump. There was also a down rail and box section but that is not important. The contest happened on the 70ft jump for sure. No one in Tahoe had ridden such a perfect and large jump this year unless they had traveled to Colorado.

The high moral of the riders rubbed off on the crowd. People were really involved in this contest. Lots of cheering and shouting when the riders landed big tricks.

Double corks? This was an amature event and double corks were being thrown in practice on peoples second and third hit on the kicker.

I met another one of my friends Scotty “banger” Hoffman. Great rider and has an amazingly positive attitude which reflects in his laid back style.

Nick, Chris, Ryan, and Banger made it into the finals along with Tahoe’s other chosen crew. The final event was very dark for the riders I am sure but for the spectators it was an amazing spectical to see the riders lit up while in the air.

I got a little artsy tonight while editing these photos. These were the last two drops of the night in the finals. Kind of intense feeling. I think this could maybe be a poster?

What the heck is 4K?

4K is simply a bigger frame. More pixel information on screen. About 4 times the amount of pixels as a full resolution HD video would have!

This image gives you a pretty good idea of just how much bigger the frame actually is.

What a crazy damn trip. Bud Light, crapping in a hole, amazing sun rises and sun sets, sleeping in tents, big trucks, guns, no running water, fires, laughter, 50+ miles of hiking, greasy breakfasts, cowboys, and good ol’ American fun are a few things that come to mind. The first day I got extremely sick but still was hiking through high elevation mountains chasing Elk. That night I was completely done and skipped on dinner. I got a lot of sleep that night at at about 4am I broke my fever. I got progressively better throughout the trip so that made things a lot easier. The next 2 days were full of hiking and watching while Alex picked the beast he wanted.

Elk are extremely large. I’d say they are a horse with antlers. Weighing in at 500 – 1000lbs they are no joke. Elk like to live in high elevation environments and are extremely suited to blend in. They can run amazingly fast for their size and can scale a mountain side before you can blink. Elk also have amazing eyesight and a sense of smell. This made them very hard to track and sneak up on.

On the third day Alex took one. We scaled up the backside of a mountain to sneak up on them. We arrived just 100 yards from 5 large Bull Elk. Watching them for over an hour Alex finally took the shot and knocked down this huge beast.

All in all the trip was very fun and I got to meet a very diverse group of people. More trips are planned in the near future.

Today was our first day out and boy was it a great day! We were lucky enough that a storm system was rolling through the area and that made for some very interesting light! We snagged two great time lapses and a few video clips. Working on them in post is getting me excited. Here are some photos!
